Learn to Solder Workshop
EAST LAPIDARY SHOP
When: Saturday, June 13, 10:00AM - 2:30PM
Teacher: Mary Cavanaugh
This is an INTERMEDIATE LEVEL Workshop
Required prerequisites to attend:
Learn the Torch (GVR Course) OR previous annealing experience
Students will learn the basics of torch soldering to make jewelry. Begin developing skills and confidence needed to fabricate jewelry from silver and other metals. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Optivizor (magnifier) and tools provided.
Materials charge: $40 (to be paid to teacher at beginning of workshop)
Location: East Lapidary Shop
This workshop will occur once a month during most of the year. Each with separate registrations. Click on a future event on the calendar to registrar early. Four students per workshop.
Lost Wax Casting Workshop
Dates: Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18
Time: 8:30AM-12PM
Registration is required to attend this workshop
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
Prerequisites: Learn the Torch class or verified experience
Learn the art of making jewelry from a wax model. Students will learn about the casting process and assist the Cast Master with their casting. As a result of the class, students will understand the basic fundamentals of the lost wax casting process, metal finishing tools and becoming a technicist to complete their takeaway silver pendant, earrings, or ring.
Material Fee: $40 (payable online (preferred) or to instructor)

Prong Settings in Metal Clay 3-Day Workshop
WHEN: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, July 6, 8, and 10 from 10 am to Noon.
This workshop is the ideal introduction for anyone interested in setting cabochons in Metal Clay. You'll grasp the two fundamental concepts: accounting for shrinkage and fusing silver to metal clay. During the session, you’ll create a simple pendant featuring a cabochon set in fine-silver prongs. While the example images may appear more intricate, we'll concentrate solely on the prong settings.

Silver Wave Earrings Workshop

This is an Intermediate Level Workshop
Required Prerequisite: Learn the Torch

You will LOVE wearing or gifting these classy sterling earrings.
Larger gauge soft wire can be shaped in many creative ways. Once you learn these basics, you can "go to town!" As they say, "You are limited only to your imagination."
Bring (if you have them) jewelry pliers - chain-nose, flat-nose, and round-nose, and small wire cutters.

Saw & Rivet Cool Earrings Workshop
When: Friday, July 17, 12:30-4:00pm
Learn the basic jewelry makers’ skills of using a jewelers’ hand saw and easy riveting to hold component parts together. Both brass and copper will be used, and you’ll have a unique earring design that you’ll be able to replicate in various creative shapes. You will learn to use Lapidary Club tools including a drill press, bench pin, texture & riveting hammers, files, patina solution, and polishing tools. All project materials will be provided. There are saws to borrow and some hand tools. If you have a saw and sturdy wire cutters, please bring them. Wear safety glasses, close-toed shoes, apron, & tie long hair back.
Bali Style Bead Fundraiser Bracelet Workshop
Date: Monday July 20
Time: 10AM - 12PM
No Prerequisites Come and have fun!
This is a 100% fundraiser for the new lapidary center at the West Center. All materials will be provided. Customize your bracelet and size it to your wrist with lead-free pewter. Some people will mistake the bracelet for sterling! Learn to construct properly with crimp beads. Bring flat-nose pliers, chain-nose pliers, and wire cutters. Also, bring 2 bead stoppers and crimp bead pliers if you have them. If not the leader will provide them. An Optivisor or other magnifier is helpful.

Make & Take Bead & Connector Necklace
Workshop
When: Thursday and Friday, July 23&24, 12:30pm to 3:30pm
Required Prerequisite:
Make & Take Earrings. Basic Wire Wrapping, or previous bead & wire experience
Description of Workshop:
Day One - Continue practicing the wrapped loop as you build a long necklace of beads and metal connector sections. Learn to use beading wire, crimp closures and adding a clasp.
Day Two - Learn to add patterns to sheet copper with the rolling mill. Then learn to cut that metal into shapes with our die-cutting equipment and drill holes. You will have enough practice to be certified for future use of this equipment when you finish your projects.
You will be proud to have two necklaces that you made with components that you also made.
Bring jewelry pliers: chain nose, flat nose, round nose AND small flush wire cutter. Wear closed-toe shoes, safety glasses and sturdy apron.

Fretz Metal Forming a Twist Bracelet and Flower Pendant
When: Tuesday, August 4, 12:30-4:00pm

Skills Needed: Comfortable annealing and using hammers and mallets
